Jorge Gutiérrez (CONICET & Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata) is an ecologist with a main research focus on the ability of organisms to physically modify their environments – or physical ecosystem engineering (sensu Jones et al. 1994). Martin Coombes (Oxford University) is a geomorphologist with broad interests in the two-way interactions between organisms and the physical environment and a pioneer on coastal bioprotection research. Gabriela Palomo (Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales - CONICET) is a marine ecologist who has been investigating the biodiversity and functioning of rocky shore communities for more than 15 years. Juliana González (Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales - CONICET) is a graduate student whose dissertation deals with bioprotective roles of invertebrates and macroalgae in intertidal platforms. María Bagur (Centro Austral de Investigaciones Científicas – CONICET) is a marine biologist experienced in the study of bivalve-rock interactions and rock-boring invertebrates.
